My Story:

I lived a relatively successful life, having degrees, a decent job, a good lifestyle, but something seemed off. There was still turbulence in my life and a feeling of chaos. Emotions would sometimes be intense and somewhat senseless. I would move about from negative emotion to negative emotion, without really knowing why. Life seemed to make sense, but then it seemed more confusing than ever.

Brief Synopsis of Book:

The book teaches that life sucks and we must accept this in order to find positive results. We are not to be psychopaths that are indifferent to everything, but to be comfortable being different. It covers what emotions truly are and how suffering can be endured if there is a meaning behind it. The book teaches us that we must be careful what we value and how we measure failure and success because valuing the wrong things and not measuring failure and success properly can mean that we miss out on happiness. We must understand that we cannot control all circumstances in life, but we can choose how we respond to life's circumstances. The key to happiness is understanding that happiness is a choice and not a destination.

How did this purchase improve my life?

The more important message that I took from this book was to carefully examine my life, what I valued most in my life and what I was focussing my energy on. I had come to the understanding that if I focussed on things that gave false value, that I would be wasting my life, concerning myself with things that didn't truly matter, thereby chasing highs and not reaching true fulfillment. I would be left empty and would actually be stagnating. I used the book to help with procrastination. Motivation can give action. As well, action can give more motivation. Sometimes, just taking action can give more energy to get more action. I can be stuck analyzing something and over analyzing to the point that I won't take action. Sometimes, it is important not to care about things that don't matter and to shift my value system so that I put energy into things that matter.
