My Story:

I was playing video games in the living room. It was night time, but not terribly late at night. My mom had already gone to be and I wasn't making too much noise. I was maybe 12 or 13 at the time. My mom was asleep maybe 30 minutes, but no more than an hour and she rushed out of her room frantically telling me to put on a coat as we had to get the keys to go to her work. She convinced herself she had forgotten to do something at work that was really serious and urgent at the same time. I tried to calm her down and assure her that everything was alright. Eventually, as she became more awake, she calmed down and went back to bed. I realized all this was because of love. She took on the stress and responsibility of adult stuff so us kids didn't have to worry. She worked long hours so we would have food and shelter and not lose the house as it was remortgaged and the payments were much higher due to a failed venture. She would sacrifice so we wouldn't suffer and because she loved us. Fast forward some years and I had been in bed for maybe 30 minutes, but less than an hour and I would jolt myself awake. It was different each time. Once, I had recently adopted a cat and I had awoken frantic because I had dreamed there were 10 cats on my bed and I was jolted awake to one tiny frightened kitten. I thought I missed something in an email to a professor or I had forgotten to lock the apartment door or something else was wrong. I would freak out, waking up my girlfriend and she would sweetly calm me down and tell me she loved me and everything was alright and that I was safe. I really didn't like having this happen, having my sleep disrupted from within and being all stressed out with sleep and waking up my girlfriend. At least the sleep disruption potential was not as intense as a cat retching at 3 a.m.

How did this purchase improve my life?

I worked a lot and many times, I would be working on on my keyboard clicking and clacking away until late. Sometimes, I would have difficulty falling asleep for many hours. I eventually learned some things about sleep and how our ancestors were not exposed to blue light after certain times of the day. Things have changed in human history with CRT, LCD, and LED screens where we are exposed to blue light 24/7. This can wreak havoc on our sleep. The Uvex Skyper Orange glasses have improved my life by protecting my eyes at night from harmful light that can contribute to macula degeneration. The Uvex Skyper glasses also help me to minimize exposure to blue light at night from my computer, laptop, or smartphone screens. One positive effect it had was it seemed to reduce the frequency and intensity of my night terrors in my experience. I also do a lot of self-talk to help calm myself. I would convince myself that I was alright and everything was fine before going to sleep. A few times waking up from a night terror, I could hear a voice in my head telling me everything is alright. Another benefit I found was I could get sleepier than normal close to my regular bedtime. I wasn't always like this. I could still work on the computer or surf and I would actually feel myself getting sleepy/drowsy which was more infrequent before. I now seem to sleep more soundly than before. I can fall asleep more quickly and I can sleep with fewer internal interruptions. My sleep quality definitely has improved since getting these glasses.

How do I use this item?

I usually put these glasses on around 9 or 10 p.m. and I head to bed at around 1 a.m. I am on the computer with them on. If I am looking at any screen I will have them on . I might even be watching T.V. or doing work on the computer and I will have them on. I leave them on right up until I go to sleep. There is a drawback as the glasses alter the color of everything I see. This can get annoying or distracting, but given the benefits, I feel that the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks and I would continue using them when I need to be viewing an electronic device screen of some sort at night.

Final Thoughts:

I've used these glasses for some time now and they have benefited me by allowing me to fall asleep more readily and stay asleep for longer with minimal internal interruptions. Sleep Medicine can be very complex and disorders and treatments can vary from patient to patient. Just because these glasses work for me, it doesn't mean that they will necessarily work for everyone. With that, I could use the glasses regularly on consecutive days. I am not sure if this is a psychosomatic effect or not, but once I didn't put them on during the night, I ended up having difficulty falling asleep and when I did sleep my sleep quality wasn't the greatest. One other thing to note is these are considered safety glasses. I was doing work a few times with power tools and I have used the Uvex Skyper glasses as safety glasses. They seemed fine for that, but not the best for safety glasses. If you want a pair of safety glasses for regular use, I would not recommend these Uvex Skyper orange glasses for that though. I would prefer a clear/neutral color for the glasses so that not everything is tinted orange. That way, I can discern objects better and more readily and I can see better as well. These will make everything a little darker. The glasses are fine enough if you are sitting down watching television or surfing on your phone or laptop.
